A great many changes are coming to DBBs, so here’s a round up of everything that’s happening before the storm of change.

Patch Update 3.2 to the Giftens’ Club

Something that’s really exciting is the next change to Giftens’ Club. In all previous versions, I would send emails to members of the club thinking they had read The Royal Gift, which is currently free on Amazon US, Amazon UK, and globally on Kobo, iBooks and Inktera.

After digging deep into the gory guts of Drae Box Books and Giftens’ Club, I discovered that most visitors to the site aren’t familiar with the series – they may have downloaded The Royal Gift, but they’ve either not gotten around to reading it yet, or have gone straight for a freebie reward for joining the club without looking around the site (I’m guilty of that last one too). I also discovered that out of everyone that joins the club, only 1 in 18 actually read The Royal Gift in the first year. Yikes.

This patch update focuses on getting newcomers to the club more familiar with the series in a fun way and entertaining the members that are familiar with the series.  Members of the club will be sent weekly club letters on the same day they subscribed. Sometimes they’ll be an article from Giften Daily (the Giften Kingdom’s main newspaper and later on their main news channel), other times a scene that isn’t in the books but happened in the characters’ lives (such as Aldora’s first day on the job as the assistant village leader after The Royal Gift). There’s also going to be more competitions, challenges, giveaways, live chats and community spotlights, yay! You can find out more of the type of things I’ll be sharing by becoming a member of Giftens’ Club if you’re not already a Giften.

Members of the club may also get extra emails during the week that are time-bound, such as a notice of an event I’m running for them or the release of a new feature, book or club-exclusive merchandise and sales.

I’ve decided that making more guest appearances away from Drae Box Books is important for a few different reasons. I’ll be linking to such appearances here at Drae Box Books. To read, watch or listen to those appearances, you’ll need to use the link I share with you.

As part of the website redesign, I will be adding some new pages to the site that are focused entirely on The Common Kingdoms Series. These will let you get to know the world and characters in more detail (if you want to anyway), and I’ll also be adding two completely new features:

An Introduction to The Common Kingdoms Series – this will be our new landing page!

Story Round Ups – these will let you catch up with what’s happened in previous books if you buy them out of order and want to know a little more without buying the previously released books. For example, if you buy Shotput of Power before The Royal Gift and Threat, you’ll be able to find a catch up page so any brief mentions of previous events can be investigated. If you plan to buy the previous books, you might want to skip these pages.

There will also be events such as Q&As where you’ll be able to submit a question and get it answered, whoot!

An author website should serve readers interested in the series or that have already read the series and wants more. In its current state, Drae Box Books doesn’t do that, so I’m fixing it. There will be some changes added to the site:

The menu recently went through a few tweaks but due to the coming changes for visitors to Drae Box Books, the menu will be changing again, with a focus on The Common Kingdoms Series. The link to All Books will still be available for the curious, along with the Contact and About pages.

You know what? I’ve never been a huge fan of Drae Box Book’s current look. It was, “good enough” which is better than striving for perfection, but I think we’ve outgrown it. In the next few months we’ll be switching to the same design I have over at Draebox.com with some tweaks for my readers (and custom artwork further down the line). The reason for this is because it’s easier to read, it’s a cleaner design with better coding and the design is much more adaptable for what we will want as TCK community grows.

One of the ways Drae Box Books grew was through my articles before I had published The Common Kingdoms Series, but I cocked up and served the wrong people – instead of readers, I was serving my clients (check out some testimonials here). As I make improvements, that means changes to the articles here at Drae Box Books.

All previously written articles that do not relate to The Common Kingdoms Series have been removed. Some will reappear improved over at Draebox.com, such as those for writers, but others may not or become available only to Writers’ Club or Giftens’ Club. I’ve also removed outdated events such as those relating to giveaways dones in the past. All new articles and events I’m running to help fiction writers will be mentioned, but will link to draebox.com for full details.

One of the things I’m really looking forward to doing are Q&As. If you have a question for me about the series, Aldora, Raneth, Prince Pedibastet, writing, publishing, promoting/marketing, me, basically anything, you can submit your question here. Keep it polite and I’ll share the answer in my first Q&A (or the next one if you’re reading this after the first one has taken place).
